Do I need to prime my project first?

With Rethunk Junk by Laura®, most projects do NOT require a primer! Just clean with The PREP and paint with your favorite color! However, occasionally there's a project that makes painting harder than it needs to be. You know them - that super slick or shiny surface or that old mahogany piece that's turning your white paint tan because of bleed-through. For these projects - Power Primer is the answer!

  • Bonding & Blocking

Most of the time, we say to skip the primer and just clean well with our Prep and then paint with your favorite of the 45 Rethunk Junk by Laura® colors. However, every now and then, certain pesky projects just need a little more attention and Power Primer is perfect for those situations!

Worried about paint sticking to an extra-slick surface? Power Primer is a bonding primer that sticks to everything including laminate!

Painting an old stained wood piece with tannins and worried about bleed through? Power Primer is also a blocking primer that seals in tannins along with other pesky stains like ink, smoke & water!

  • White or Gray?

Knowing which primer color to use on your project is pretty simple. If you're going from a dark to a light, use White Power Primer. If you're going from a light to a dark, use Gray Power Primer.

If you're painting with a white or pastel shade, White Power Primer is the right choice. If you're finished color will be Midnight, Farmhouse Navy or any of our deep tones, Gray Power Primer is the better option.

The tricky question is which primer to use over colors that are in between - like reds, oranges, and deep greens. In general, the Gray Power Primer is preferred for use under all deep, richly pigmented shades of Rethunk Junk by Laura® colors.

  • How do I use Power Primer?

Like all Rethunk Junk by Laura® products, Power Primer is low VOC and can be used on all kinds of surfaces including wood, laminate, metal, bricks, plaster, cement, ceramic and glass.

To use, simply clean your project with The Prep, then apply Power Primer. Wait one hour to recoat or apply your selected Furniture & Cabinet paint color.

Power Primer does these other amazing things too...

Great for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Blocks mildew and mold stains and inhibits new growth.

Clean up with soap and water.
